When Your Tech Starts Holding You Back

If you’re a solo entrepreneur running a business online… coaching, facilitating, holding space for people… Your laptop, phone, or desktop becomes part of the experience. Not in an obvious way… but in a subtle, felt way.

It’s the difference between things flowing… and things feeling just slightly off.

A lot of people we speak to are using the same machine they’ve had for years. And to be fair… it still works.

But what’s changed isn’t necessarily your device… It’s everything around it.

Zoom running. Browsers full of tabs. Cloud tools. Music. Emails. Notes. Calendars.

Modern workflows are heavier and over time, your machine starts to feel it.

At first, it’s small. A slight delay. A pause here and there.

Then you’re mid-session… switching between tabs… and things hesitate.

Audio lags. Screen stutters. “Just bear with me…” Sound familiar?

t’s not broken per se… it’s just working harder than it used to. And without realising it, you start adapting. Closing apps. Avoiding tools. Keeping things minimal just to keep it running smoothly.

Your workflow quietly shrinks to fit your machine.

And when you’re holding space for clients… that matters.

Because it’s not just about speed.

It’s about how you feel.

A struggling setup creates low-level tension… distraction… a slight break in your presence. And that can affect both you and your client.

RAM (In Simple Terms)

RAM is what allows your device to handle multiple things at once.

Years ago, 8GB was plenty. Now it’s more of a baseline. Modern apps expect multitasking, so what used to feel smooth… can now feel a bit tight. Newer Apple Silicon Macs handle memory better, but even then 8GB is still the lower end for this kind of work.)

Storage Matters Too

This catches a lot of people out… Your computer also uses free hard drive space as “virtual memory” when RAM fills up. So if your storage is nearly full, performance can drop quickly.

Things slow down. Apps hang. Updates fail. Try to keep at least 15–25% free space. It makes a bigger difference than most people realise.

When your setup is right, you don’t think about it. Everything just works. You stay present. Focused. In flow.

And that’s the goal. Not more tech… just less friction.

Check up

Most coaches and facilitators are doing amazing work …but their setup doesn’t always support them. If things feel slower than they should… or you’re working around your tech…

It’s worth a quick check.

Not from a “buy everything new” place…

Just to see what could feel lighter, smoother, easier.

If this sounds familiar… it’s very often fixable.
