Frequently Asked Questions

Have Question? We are here to help

What’s the difference between BT Business Broadband, Fibre, and BTnet?

BT Business Broadband and Fibre are shared services suitable for everyday business use. FTTP (full fibre) offers the best performance of shared services. BTnet is a dedicated, uncontended connection with guaranteed speeds and service levels, designed for business-critical operations where uptime and performance are essential.

How do I know whether my business needs BTnet or standard fibre?

It depends on how critical your connectivity is. If your business relies heavily on cloud systems, VoIP phones, remote workers, EPOS, CCTV, or real-time applications, BTnet can reduce risk and performance issues. Connection Worx helps assess whether shared fibre is sufficient or if a dedicated connection would be a better fit.

What is SOGEA and how does it replace FTTC?

SOGEA is the modern replacement for FTTC. It delivers fibre to the cabinet without needing a traditional phone line. It’s broadband-only and aligned with the UK PSTN switch-off, making it a more future-proof option for many businesses.

What is SoADSL and when is it used?

SoADSL replaces traditional ADSL services and is used in areas where fibre is not yet available. It’s a broadband-only service that doesn’t require a phone line, but speeds are more limited compared to fibre options.

How does the PSTN switch-off affect my broadband and phone systems?

The PSTN switch-off means traditional analogue phone lines will no longer work. Many broadband and voice services now move to broadband-only connections and cloud-based phone systems. Connection Worx helps identify any services that could be affected so nothing critical is missed.

What is a Wide Area Network (WAN) and why would I need one?

A WAN connects multiple sites securely, allowing them to operate as one network. This is ideal for multi-site businesses that need reliable access to shared systems, data, and voice services. Connection Worx designs site-to-site and multi-site networks using BT connectivity to improve performance, security, and resilience.

Can you help review our existing BT account and services?

Yes. We offer BT account and estate reviews to help you understand what services you have, identify legacy or unused lines, spot PSTN-dependent services, and highlight upgrade or resilience opportunities. Many businesses discover hidden risks or missed improvements through a short review.

Do you only focus on cost savings?

No. While we may identify cost efficiencies, our primary focus is making sure your connectivity supports how your business actually operates. That includes performance, reliability, resilience, and future-proofing not just lowering monthly bills.

What BT security and endpoint protection options are available?

BT offers a range of security and endpoint protection services designed to protect devices, users, and networks from cyber threats. Connection Worx helps assess what level of protection is appropriate for your business based on risk, compliance needs, and how your team works.

What is included in a Connection Worx connectivity and resilience review?

Our reviews typically look at:

  • Current broadband and connectivity services

  • PSTN-dependent and legacy lines

  • Site eligibility for fibre or dedicated upgrades

  • Resilience and single points of failure

  • Voice and cloud readiness

  • Security and endpoint protection needs

The aim is to give you clarity and practical recommendations, with no obligation.

What experience does Connection Worx have delivering BTnet and resilient connectivity?

Our team has worked in the BT partner channel for almost 20 years and has delivered hundreds of BTnet connections for organisations of all sizes supporting sectors including education, local government, manufacturing, creative and media, finance, defence, and more.

From single circuits to fully resilient designs with backup, failover, and load balancing, we help businesses design connectivity that balances performance, resilience, and cost.

Does BTnet support mobile (4G/5G) backup and failover?

At this time, BT does not officially offer 4G or 5G mobile backup services as part of the BTnet portfolio.

We may be able to provide this as part of an SDWAN type setup however.

If mobile backup is important for your business continuity, please ask us for more details so we can advise on suitable options.

Do you provide Cloud Voice / Telephone Services?

Yes. We can design, supply, and support Cloud Voice and cloud hosted telephone systems for UK businesses.

We can review your current setup, numbers, call flows, and connectivity, then recommend a solution that’s reliable, scalable, and future-proof especially important with the PSTN switch-off.

Already have a system? We’re may also be able to review and optimise what you’re using to help you get the most from your system.
