Zoom’s New UK Data Centre

And Why It Matters for Facilitators, Therapists & Sensitive Conversations

If you run sessions online - whether that’s coaching, therapy, or any form of deep personal work - there’s something important that’s just changed…

Zoom has launched a UK-based data centre.

And while that might sound like “just another tech update”… it actually has some real-world implications for how safe, compliant, and trustworthy your sessions feel - both for you and your clients.

So… what’s actually changed?

Until now, your Zoom data (calls, recordings, metadata etc.) could be processed or stored in data centres outside the UK.

Now, with a UK data centre in place, there’s the option for:

  • Data being processed within the UK
  • Better alignment with UK data protection expectations (GDPR etc)
  • More confidence when handling sensitive or personal information

Why this matters in your world

If you’re doing surface-level meetings, it’s probably “nice to have.” But if you’re working in spaces like:

  • Therapy / coaching
  • Breathwork / somatic work
  • Emotional release sessions
  • Trauma-informed practices

…then this becomes a lot more relevant.

Because let’s be honest - what comes up in these sessions isn’t just “business chat.”

It can include:

  • Deep emotional experiences
  • Personal history
  • Sensitive beliefs or trauma
  • Private client insights

And clients are becoming more aware of where their data goes.

The trust factor

Being able to say: “sessions are hosted on infrastructure based in the UK, with strong encryption and data controls”…just lands differently. It’s subtle - but powerful.

It shows:

  • You’ve thought about confidentiality
  • You take data protection seriously
  • You’re operating at a professional level

What Zoom are also bringing into the mix

It’s not just about location - there are a few other bits worth knowing:

1. AI tools (with control)

Zoom’s AI Companion is being built into the platform - but importantly:

  • It can run within Zoom’s environment
  • You have control over how it’s used

For facilitators, that means you can choose whether to:

  • Use AI for summaries, notes etc.
  • Or keep sessions completely “human-only”

2. Encryption options

Zoom already offers:

  • End-to-End Encryption (E2EE) for meetings
  • Advanced encryption for chat
  • Customer-managed encryption keys (for certain data)

With UK hosting, this becomes a stronger overall security story

Practical takeaway

You don’t need to become a data compliance expert overnight.

But it is worth:

  • Checking your Zoom settings
  • Looking at data centre region options
  • Updating your privacy policy / client comms
  • Being aware of what you record (if anything)

Even small tweaks can make a big difference.

The bigger picture

This is part of a wider shift. We’re moving into a world where:

  • Tech + human work are blending more than ever
  • Clients expect both empathy AND professionalism
  • Trust isn’t just about how you show up…
but also the systems you use behind the scenes

As well as being a Zoom partner we can help businesses in many other ways.
